This pump is designed to work with your existing lift/transfer pump on the motor. This pump reads pressure though a pressure switch that comes with the kit, and is designed to turn on when it reaches a certain pressure. This pump is good if you have a good lift/transfer pump already and your just looking for a little added security. If your lift/transfer pump on your truck is bad now you should look into the OEM bypass kit.
